Carter's Vineyards extend to seven acres of
planted vines and, with over 40 acres of wildflower meadows, lakes and woodland,
provide a glorious setting in the picturesque Stour
Valley. The vines produce
a number of award-winning wines that appeal to a variety of tastes:-
Sparkling: Lovejoy and Colchester
Sparkling Rosé
Red: King Coel and Boudicca
Aromatic Dry White: Carter's Bacchus
Crisp Dry White: Orion
Medium Dry: St Helena and Colchester
Rosé
Visitors can tour the vineyards and take advantage of the
various attractions of owner Ben Bunting's enterprise. The modest entrance fee
includes a video show and a self-guided tour of the vines and winery usually
accompanied by the owners friendly dogs! Nature trails lead round the lakes and
through woodland and meadows abounding in wildlife _ lucky visitors might spot
the family of kingfishers in residence. Evening visits, including light supper
and guided tour, can be arranged. One of the most interesting features of this
fascinating place is the alternative energy project that harnesses wind and sun
to produce electricity to run the whole enterprise. Carter's Vineyards are open
between 11am and 5pm from Easter Monday to the end of October.
