Rowles of Dovercourt is two shops side by side in a single
high-street building, one specialising in jewellery, the other in quality
gifts. The business is owned and run by Janet Chapman and Julie Pratt, who took
over the premises in 1998 when George and Betty Rowles retired.
The impressive window display offers glimpse of the lovely
things inside, and Janet and Julie regularly attend trade fairs to ensure that
the stock includes the latest fashions and `must-have' items.
The jewellery section includes an excellent selection of
rings, necklaces, bracelets, chains and earrings, as well as costume jewellery
and a good range of watches. The gift shop, reached through the first, is
filled with displays of lovely things for the home, including picture frames,
clocks, jewellery boxes, Tiffany and Florence lamps, Willow Tree figurines,
Royal Brierley, Aynsley china, Poole Pottery, vases by Franz and Disney
characters from Enesco.
Rowles is open five days a week - closed Wednesday and
Sunday.
