Bury Farm Cottages provide the perfect
opportunity to discover the `real' Essex from the peaceful village of Great
Canfield, a short drive south of Great Dunmow. The Clarke family's 300-acre farm is a quiet,
rural setting in which it's easy to relax and unwind. Former bakehouses and
stables were renovated in 2004 into high-quality self-catering accommodation
combining period features with up-to-the-minute facilities. Each is named after
a particular feature. In Bakers Cottage (sleeps two), a Victorian flour store
was discovered in a space in the eaves; an old bread oven discovered during the
conversion of Bread Cottage (sleeps four, plus a sofa bed); and Pudding (sleeps
four) takes its name from the pudding (cooking) stones that are now
incorporated in the approach ramps.
The cottages have vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, oak
flooring and doors, and two have retained the original fireplaces. The living
areas in the cottages are provided with TV, video players and mini hi-fi
systems, and the kitchens are fitted with dishwashers, fridge-freezers,
electric hobs and microwave ovens. Patio doors open on to a private terrace
overlooking meadowland. Shared amenities include a games room with a snooker
table, and a laundry room.
