The beautiful interior of Audely End House remains largely
unaltered since the early I 820s, reflecting many generations of style changes.
Elaborately decorated rooms range from small and intimate dressing rooms,
bedrooms and sitting rooms, to the magnificent Great Apartment. Some are
decorated in Robert Adam's trademark Neo-Classical style, while others retain
their original Jacobean appearance. Paintings by masters such as Holbein, Lely
and Canaletto can be admired throughout. Audley End's gift shop offers a
wonderful range of interesting souvenirs, and refreshments are available. An
artificial lake created with water from the River Cam runs through delightful
18th century pastoral parkland, designed by Capability Brown. The Classical
Temple of Concorde, built in 1790 in honour of George III, and the restored
19th-century formal parterre garden, with its elaborately designed flowerbeds,
dominate the views from the back of the house. A thriving walled Victorian
kitchen garden, cultivating organic produce originally grown on the estate, and
a magnificent 170 foot-long vine house, are highlights of any visit to Audley
End House and Gardens.
