An excellent range of freshly smoked fish, shellfish and
cured meats, delicious home-made pâtés all hand crafted to highest
of standards, are some of the things that await customers at Cley Smokehouse.
Situated on the High Street at Cley-next-the-Sea (now actually a mile from the
sea), the building dates back to the late-1600s and was once part of the
customs bonded warehouse.
Owner Glen Weston is from a well-known local fishing family
and has his own fishing boat. He knows the best and freshest fish when he sees
it, and chooses only the best for smoking.
Glen and his team do all the prepatation and smoking on the
premises in the new and completely refurbished preparation areas at the rear of
the shop. Kippers and eels are two specialities, but delicious bloaters,
mackerel, haddock, salmon, herring, trout and cod roe are also sold here. Other
tempting fare includes taramasalata, potted shrimp, smoked cheese, pickled
herring, home-made soup and much, much more. Staff are always friendly and
helpful, and the shop also offers an excellent mail order service. |
