A day to remember is guaranteed at Bressingham, where gardeners will be in paradise and children past and present can experience the thrill of the golden age of steam. Alan Bloom, one of the most respected plantsmen of his age, created the Dell Garden and its famous Island Beds between 1955 and 1962, and his garden is now world-renowned for its collection of nearly 5,000 species and varieties of hardy perennials. The Garden Centre has a comprehensive collection of hardy perennials including the Blooms Heritage Collection, plus plants for the house and conservatory and all sorts of gardening gifts and accessories, as well as a café and bookshop.

Alan's son-in-law Jaime Blake carries on the family tradition as Curator of Dell Garden, while son Adrian has created a garden for all seasons at nearby Foggy Bottom, where trees, conifers and shrubs provide a backdrop which is enhanced by plantings of perennials and ornamental grasses. The two gardens are open from April to October, the Garden Centre and Steam Experience all year round. There's a full programme of special events, lectures, talks and demonstrations. This really is a place to linger, and Alan Bloom offers B&B accommodation at his Georgian home, Bressingham Hall.
