A group of sensitively converted farm buildings incorporate
Butley
Pottery, the Barn Café and a summer Artists' Gallery. The showroom
displays studio pottery, individual pieces with slip or majolica designs,
sculpture in various media and Dan Hussey's unique and beautiful hand-crafted
range of steam bent coppiced ash furniture. There are changing exhibitions in
the gallery, during the summer by contemporary artists. Self-catering bed and
breakfast is also available here, in a charming apartment.
The Barn Café (Tel: 01394 450800/382332) specialises
in innovative cuisine, using locally produced meat and vegetables, and an
abundance of fresh herbs. Unusual vegetarian creations are always on the menu.
Lunch bookings advisable, evening parties by arrangement. This is a delightful
area of the coast, offering many hidden attractions. Cycle routes, footpaths and
bird reserves abound, the river Ore and historic places such as Sutton Hoo,
Orford castle and medieval woods are close by.
