The Coach House Fish & Chip Shop is a popular 44-seat café and takeaway on a corner site
on the busy market place. It has a traditional look and feel, and the décor includes paintings
and vintage photographs of local places of interest. It's owned by Sue and Wesley Darbyshire,
a cheerful, hardworking couple with three children and a multitude of interests (the business
was started in 1976 by Wesley's mum). The fish all comes from sustainable stock, and
other favourites on a menu that caters for all appetites include home made steak pies and cheese
& onion pies. Uniformed waitresses provide friendly,
professional service, and the shop holds regular charity evenings in support
of the RNLI and Rotary Club.
Sue's interests include card crafting and scrapbooking, and with her
mother-in-law Barbara she runs RU Crafty2 in
a two room shop next to the chippy. This super little shop is filled
with cardmaking and scrapbooking materials, paints and punches and rubber
stamps, beads and jewellery, kids' kits and crafts, and they hold regular demos
and weekly workshops. Sue got the idea for the shop after making a scrapbook
of her daughter Danielle's first 18 years.
