Owner Cath Klapsia is passionate about food, and she runs the
Hope Chest & Courtyard Café/Restaurant
with help from her family and a small group of local staff. The setting is a Victorian gritstone
building with a conservatory extension and a pleasant garden. The
Hope Chest is a delicatessen selling a mouthwatering selection of
good things to eat, including cooked meats, cheeses, cakes and
pastries, sandwiches made to order in a variety of breads, and
the range of excellent products in jars from the French
company La Belle Chouvienne. Cath will make up picnic baskets with
a little notice, and the deli offers an outside catering service.
The Café is open from 8 to 5 serving everything from an
all-day breakfast to sandwiches, pasties, Derbyshire oatcakes
with a choice of fillings and hot main dishes such as tuna pasta
bake, chicken jalfrezi, liver & bacon, sausage casserole swerved in
a giant Yorkshire pudding and always plenty for vegetarians,
along with super home-made cakes and pastries. The Restaurant
is open for bookings for atmospheric candlelit dining from 7
o'clock Monday to Saturday (and Sunday by special
arrangement). Temptations on the à la carte and fixed-price menus tempt with classics such as rack of lamb,
and tournedos Rossini. The dining room can be hired for private parties, and home
catering is available.
