Located down a small cobbled lane adjacent to Hereford's
historic Cathedral is the Country Lifestyle Boutique
Berry Red and its sister shop Berry Red
Children. Opened by London émigrés Karon and
Simon Hamilton, both shops specialise in individually designed products
a world away from the standard High Street fare.
On display are textiles, fabrics, embroidered wares, quilts,
cushions, and unusual painted decorative furniture, glassware, enamelware
and ceramics, mirrors, clocks and lighting, all selected to fit into a relaxed country theme. As well
as products for the home, the Lifestyle Shop also affords the opportunity to indulge in
some personal retail therapy. No 29 Church Street offers a fabulous selection of mainly
French toiletries together with personal accessories such as scarves, hats, slippers, nightwear
and vintage-style jewellery. In the old panelled Garden Room at the side of the building is an
equally alluring selection of items for the garden. From ornaments and planters to hammocks and
Raj style parasols. It's all very eclectic and colourful and a paradise for browsers.
No 9 Church Street is the Children's Store, and like its elder sister is full of
wonderful surprises. Its unashamedly old fashioned and stocks the kind of toys you remember from your
own childhood; no batteries or plastic in this shop! Treasures like rag dolls, wicker prams,
traditional teddy bears, spinning tops and bows & arrows are typical of the stock carried together with
a lovely selection of Mother and Baby. The shop also stocks children's clothes from D'Arcy
Brown, London, as well as smaller collections from individual designers such as the intricately
hand crocheted fair trade dresses and pram coats made from organic cotton and
sourced in Peru.
