Third-generation farmers Alan and Jane Hewson attract lovers of top-quality home-produced food
from many miles around. The range of British beef,
pork and lamb is truly impressive, either in cuts and
joints or in home-cured hams, bacon,
preservative-free sausages and haslet. Among the biggest sellers
are the gold award-winning meat pies: steak, steak
& kidney, chicken & mushroom, pork apple & cider
and many more. Fresh homemade cakes are made daily
in their bakery on the farm. Also to be found are
free-range eggs, preserves, soft drinks and an
extensive range of Fair Trade foods. The farm is going back
to its dairying roots with on-site milking and
bottling, handmade and hand-patted jersey butter, cream
and old-recipe farmhouse cheeses.
Another development is a group of local
residents growing organic fruit and vegetables in
greenhouses on the farm. Customers can enjoy superb cream teas in the 17th century barn or out on
the lawn, and wander round the little museum above the shop with a fascinating collection of
old farm implements. Eastwell lies off the A617 a short distance north of Melton Mowbray.
