Ashby Aquatics is a friendly family-run
enterprise in the National Forest, specialising in
aquatic plants, exotic fish and associated supplies
and accessories. The main building stands next to
a lake close to a roundabout on the A511 and a short drive from the main A42. The stock
includes an impressive variety of plants for the
water's edge and floating plants, and knowledgeable
staff are always ready with help and advice on
lake planting and related topics.
In the summer they hold special kids days when youngsters can spend a few hours
having fun while learning about pond life, aquatics,
plants and even birdlife. In the Tropical Room there
are tanks of Koi carp and other exotic fish, and
Ashby also sells coldwater fish, fish tanks, pumps
and heaters, fish food and tank plants. The owners have recently opened Water Lily Tables,
a delightful lakeside café where visitors can enjoy
a cup of tea or coffee and a snack throughout the centre's opening hours, which are 9 to
6 Monday to Saturday and 10 to 4 on Sunday.
