Many people dream of owning and running a
chocolate shop, but very few realise those dreams. One of
those lucky few is Lavinia Ratcliffe, who opened
her Chocolate Haven in 1999. The great majority of
the goodies on display are top-quality Belgian
chocolates, all either totally handmade or hand-finished. All
the leading brands are featured, along with some
local Shropshire chocolates and some that are
sugar-free. But the shop sells much more than chocolates.
Other temptations include handmade fudge and nougat, Turkish Delight, marzipan, praline, truffles,
and the sort of sweets we'd almost forgotten: six
flavours of toffee bonbons, mint imperials, sweet
tobacco, jellies, sugar mice. Bennett's Farmhouse ice creams come in vanilla, vanilla with seeds and
20 other flavours, and among other local goods are flavour-packed preserves. This is a perfect
place to find a gift, and customers can have their own gift boxes made up. Chocolate haven is
open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, and on Sundays from 12 noon to 5pm.
