Consall Hall Landscape Garden covers an exceptional 70 acre site where four small valleys have been combined into an enchanting natural landscape. The beauty has been enhanced by the creation of six lakes, grottoes, follies, bridges and a charming cottage style summer house all surrounded by shelter belts planted with swathes of different trees to accentuate the valleys and create beautiful backgrounds.

The manor of Consall is first mentioned in the Domesday Book and the present hall was started in 1807. 150 years ago the area was ravaged by mining when 2,000 miners formed large pit banks which destroyed the views over the valleys. These scars were removed 48 years ago by William Podmore OBE when he began the restoration of the landscape and produced the beauty that can be seen today; a series of astonishing vistas which have been made easily accessible by linking with four miles of paths.

The vistas were composed in the same way as a painting starting with an interesting foreground, drawing the eye over grass or water to an eye catcher set against a stunning background. Each viewpoint is provided with a seat and some are covered to provide shelter whatever the weather, as well as framing the vista to form a carefully composed living picture, which continually changes throughout the day as well as with the seasons and the weather.
