Saturday the 11th of March 2006 saw the grand opening
of Autograph Ink Memorabilia, a shop and showroom stocked
with hundreds of genuinely signed autographed photographs
and memorabilia. They can be sold unframed or delicately set in
a hand-crafted wooden frame. Certain items can be prepared
for dedication to a special friend, and another service enables
customers' pictures to be reproduced on high-quality linen stretched on a
solid wooden frame.
The two floors are packed from ground to ceiling with pictures
of the famous, including sporting celebs, stars of stage and
screen, and singers from Ol' Blue Eyes to Madonna. The shop began as
a hobby for owner Tony King, and meetings with
Stratford-born photographer Stuart Stanley and Canadian caricature artist
Marshall Caplin spawned the idea for the shop. Their work dominates
the space, but there's plenty more besides the photographs
and drawings, including film scripts, posters, books, signed
football shirts and boxing gloves -
even divorce papers and wills, all
one-off originals, and all with authentic signatures.
This is a great place for browsing and, as the owner
says, retail therapy is rarely this fascinating. Shoppers can
also order online.
