Voted one of the best craft shops in all Ireland by the
Crafts Council of Ireland, Adrigole Arts enjoys a
magnificent location on the dramatic Beara Peninsula at the base of
the famous Healy Pass one of the most spectacular drives in
the country. It looks across to Adrigole Bay and Hungry
Hill, the latter whose name was used as the title of the Daphne du Maurier best selling novel, first
published in 1943, which chronicled the lives of five generations of an Irish family, and the
copper mines in the area.
At Adrigole Arts they have gathered together one of the most unique
and exciting selections of individual handmade top quality craftwork and fine gifts to
be found anywhere in Ireland. In the jewellery display are classic and innovative
designs in precious and alternative metals; in ceramics, domestic and special
one-of-a-kind items in beautiful forms and glazes; whilst the artefacts in wood include
hand-turned bowls and special objects made from wood thousands of years old.
Irish pewter and Irish woollens are both very special, so there's a wonderful selection
of top quality items in these materials; hand-blown glass and leather
goods highlight two other ancient crafts.
On the first floor is located the Hungry Hill Gallery room
and throughout the season they hold a series of shows with
original work by local and national artists. The gallery also carries a range
of limited edition prints by landscape artist John McConnell.
During the summer months Adrigole Arts also serves tea,
coffee and cakes on the terrace where one can relax and take in
the natural beauty of the surroundings of this truly
unique place.
