Stretching for a distance of 30 miles from Glengarriff to Dursey Island and back to Kenmare, the Beara Peninsula is the wildest and most romantic of the southwestern peninsulas. An excellent base for exploring this spectacular and unspoilt area is provided by Allihies Holiday Homes, top quality self-catering cottages set in a beautiful location and enjoying stunning views.

These recently-built cottages in the picturesque village of Allihies were designed to provide spacious and comfortable accommodation. The tastefully decorated bedrooms are fully furnished, well laid out, and bright and airy. The bathroom/shower facilities are fully accessible to disabled persons. All of the Allihies Holiday Homes properties have fully fitted kitchens with every modern appliance you could wish for, and the modern and comfortable surroundings include spacious cooking and dining areas. Appliances include dishwasher, washing machine and oven/hob. The properties are open all year round and the rates represent outstanding value for money.

Allihies is a great place for walkers. It stands on the Beara Way, a 125-mile long footpath which runs all the way around the peninsula following side roads, boreens, bog roads and tracks. It passes a variety of historical sites ranging from Ogham Stones to wedge graves, stone circles to ancient church sites.

A few stretches run along the very edge of the Atlantic and the route is never far from the sea, even in the mountainous parts. The path also passes through several towns Kenmare, Glengarriff and Castletownbere and along the way, walkers can enjoy a thrill unique to Beara a spin over the sea in a tiny cable car at Dursey Island!
