Set in 50 acres of beautifully landscaped gardens and paddocks,
Glendine Country House is a handsome Georgian mansion
which still retains many of its original 1830
features. Antique pieces and warm colours help to
create an old world charm and the owners, Ann and Tom Crosbie, make sure that their guests
can relax in the friendly and informal atmosphere.
Arriving guests are welcomed with tea or coffee and can settle down by the period fireplace,
savouring the fine view through the bay windows of the harbour and of peaceful fields where their Jacob
sheep, deer or Highland cattle graze.
Good food is taken seriously at Glendine. Ann and her staff pride themselves in offering
hearty and wholesome breakfasts which will set you up for the day. Help yourself to a range of fresh
fruits, cereals, porridge, yoghurts, juices, etc.
followed by a choice of chef Mary's freshly cooked breakfasts, homemade Guinness
bread, preserves, tea or coffee.
The charmingly decorated en-suite bedrooms are spacious and equipped with
TV, hairdryer and clock radio, and appealing
extras such as the fresh white cotton sheets on Victorian beds. Since the house occupies
a superb position overlooking the Barrow Estuary, most of the guest rooms
enjoy breathtaking views.
If you prefer self-catering, Glendine offers a choice of four-star holiday cottages. Set in
a courtyard and commanding a coastal view, old stone buildings dating from 1830 have been
converted to cosy country cottages. Facilities in all cottages include an open plan living/kitchen/dining
area; cooker, washing machine, microwave, fridge & dishwasher; TV; electric heating and a
log-burning stove. Each cottage has two en suite bedrooms which can comfortably sleep five guests, and each
has a garden with a barbeque area on the patio.
Glendine's secluded garden provides a tranquil sanctuary for those seeking
to relax and there's a wealth of outdoor activities to be enjoyed here in the
sunny south-east of Ireland. These include scenic coastal walks on the
Hook Peninsulla, angling, golf and horse riding. Amongst the many
visitor attractions in the area are Johnstown Castle; the Dunbrody Heritage Ship
in New Ross; the John F. Kennedy Arboretum with its collection of
4,500 types of trees and shrubs, and the Waterford Crystal seven miles away.
