Forge Tea Shop

Hutton-le-Hole, North Yorkshire YO62 6UA

Tel: 01751 417444

Overlooking Hutton-le-Hole's sprawling common and just a few metres from the award-winning Ryedale Folk Museum, the popular Forge Tea Shop celebrated its 23rd year in business in 2005. It's owned and run by Les and Gill Welford, a friendly and welcoming couple both of whom are Yorkshire born and bred. In 1982 they took over a former garage and transformed it into a cosy, traditional tea room. Les looks after all the cooking and offers a fresh, wholesome menu of home-made cakes, cream teas, snacks and light meals. His Yorkshire Curd Tart, served with a generous pot of Yorkshire Tea, is particularly popular, while other local delicacies include Ryburn dairy ice cream from nearby Helmsley and the Welfords' own soft ice cream which serves as a topping for the extensive choice of delicious sundaes.

Not to be missed is Les' succulent fruit loaf, available either with your tea or to take home. In good weather customers can enjoy their refreshments at outdoor tables; inside they are surrounded by a colourful display of attractive gifts, cards and souvenirs along with framed prints and oil paintings of Ryedale by the Helmsley artist Brian Richardson. Forge Tea Shop is open daily from 11am to 4.30pm (mid-February to mid-November); weekends only mid-November to mid-February.
