The display room at Tiswood
in the village of Ebberston provides a showcase for the work
of Ian Mennell, a gifted craftsman who began as an indentured
carpenter but then decided to side-step traditional trades
work. He began by making a cabinet for a neighbour and from
that modest beginning has gone on to create a range of
beautifully-made
display
cabinets for discerning collectors. Each is made from solid
hardwood with a veneered ply back, glass door and adjustable
ground-edged glass shelves, so designed as to enable them to
be hung to open left or right (except when a lock is fitted).
A mirror can also be fitted into the back if required.
The regular models are named for
Yorkshire Dales, though cabinets can also be made to order to
your own specifications to fit a particular space or to house
a special collection, and can be stained in any colour to
match your existing pieces. Throughout the year, Ian exhibits
at many craft fairs, collectors' fairs, Yorkshire County
Shows, and the Harrogate Crafts for Christmas event for
details, consult the Tiswood website. Mail-order service
available. Ian also produces a range of jewellery stands for
earrings and necklaces.
