The business began in a small way selling plants propagated in the gardens of the main house. As it grew, it gradually took over the kitchen garden, making way for stock beds which still provide most of the plants on sale. The nursery is now run by Matthew Bardgett, the head gardener of the main house. He has put together a wide range of interesting and rare plants, most of which are propagated in the nursery. Other plants are supplied by good traditional local growers who maintain the same high standards as Halecat. The extensive stock includes a very large range of perennials, seasonal bedding plants, shrubs, trees, alpines, grasses and hanging baskets. When you've made your purchases you can settle down in the Flower Pot Tea Room which serves an appetising selection of home-made cakes along with local Farrers coffee and tea, or wander around the main garden open to the public all year round.
