Housed in a 17th century granary
and reached by an outside stairway, The Courtyard Gallery
has been established in the delightful little town of
Appleby-in-Westmorland for more than 20 years. It provides a
showcase for the work of more than 25 artists and craftspeople
who have based themselves in the north of England. On display
is a diverse selection of original watercolours and oils by
artists such as Venus Griffiths, Rosemary Morrison, Pat
Schaverien and Gareth Watson, along with mixed media and
etchings by Roseanne
Bellwood,
Debbie Lucas and Piers Brown.
Other artists whose work is
regularly on show include John Sibson, Chris Mouncey and Alan
Stones. The gallery also displays a fine selection of
glassware, jewellery (mostly silver), domestic and abstract
sculpture, ceramic antiques, greetings cards and postcards.
Whether you are looking for something to add distinction to
your own home, or to find an inspired gift, you will almost
certainly find it here. Another attraction at the gallery is
its coffee shop which serves teas, coffees and some delicious
home-made cakes.
