Country Cuts Organic Meats

Bridge End Farm, Santon Bridge, Holmrook, Cumbria CA19 1UY

Country Cuts Organic Meats is based at Bridge End Farm, a fully organic farm with Organic Certification UK2. It nestles on the plateau between the Irish Sea and the stunning Wasdale Valley which is part of the beautiful Lake District National Park. It's a unique natural setting of clover enriched meadows through which the River Irt meanders, a landscape unchanged and unspoilt for hundreds of years.

The farm is run by the Phizacklea family who took the decision to follow an organic farming scheme in the light of the mistrust and uncertainties surrounding the production of meat. They wanted to hark back to a gentler and healthier way of life but with the advantage and convenience of modern technology. "Organic farming simply means that no chemicals are used in the production of meat," they say. The grass is fertilised using the animals' own waste products instead of chemical fertilisers. The abundance of clovers in pastureland and natural meadows provide the goodness the animals need to thrive.

The Phizackleas also participate in the Environmentally Sensitive Area Scheme and have recently replanted miles of hedges and re-built dykes so that in the fullness of time they will provide a natural habitat for some of England's unique wildlife and birds. Several ponds have already been created attracting wild fowl of all descriptions including water hens, water rails and even the occasional osprey. The whole combination encourages the return of wildlife of all forms.

The end result of all this is the top quality meat on display at the farm shop which aims to provide the best priced and excellent value organic matured beef, fell crossed lamb and mutton, rare breed pork, from which they make their own delicious sausages, air-dried bacon, hams, gammon and `farma' ham, burgers and specialities. Or you could try their delicious, organic chicken and turkey, free range geese and ducks, wild venison and game.

The Phizackleas have recently extended the range of products on sale in the farm shop to include tea, coffee, fish, eggs, crisps, biscuits, bread, jams, chutneys, relish, sauces, pasta, rice, cheese, fruit and yoghurt drinks, vegetables and much more.

The Farm Shop and Attic Gift Shop are open daily from 10am-5pm. Nationwide mail order is available via phone/fax, e-mail or website.
