The East Lancashire Railway offers
visitors an opportunity to step back in time to the age of
steam and travel along this delightful stretch of track. Your
journey can be broken at Ramsbottom or Irwell Vale stations
where you could enjoy a lineside picnic.
On Platform 2 at Bury Bolton
Street Station, the period tearooms offer views of the
locomotives arriving or departing from the station, while you
enjoy a meal in the pleasant surroundings. Snacks and meals
are available and the rooms can be pre-booked for special
occasions.
A wide variety of events take
place throughout the year, including Santa Specials, a Day out
with Thomas and Friends, 1940s Wartime weekend and Steam
Enthusiasts Weekend - ring for current details. Adults can
actually drive a steam or deisel locomotive on the `Footplate
Experience' or an entire train can be hired for a special
occasion or event. Facilities for the disabled are extremely
good with access at all the stations, toilets at the main
stations and a specially adapted carriage with wide doors and
hydraulic lift.
