Castle Moil Restaurant &
Giftshop and the adjoined King Haakon Bar, are
situated on the seafront in the picturesque fishing village of
Kyleakin, gateway to the Isle of Skye. The village sits
immediately over the infamous Skye Bridge, and is a favourite
stop for travellers and tourists arriving on the island. The
village serves as an excellent base from which to explore the
rest of the island. The family-run fully licensed Castle
Moil Restaurant offers excellent value home-cooked dishes
in a relaxed and informal environment. The menu caters for a
wide range of appetites, tastes and budgets, including
children, and always features fresh local fish and shellfish
as well as traditional favourites such as steak pie, roast
chicken and, of course,"haggis, neeps and tatties".
Lighter snacks and salads are also always available, and the
experience can be greatly enhanced with a bottle of wine,
local malt whisky or a pint of the house real ale. Between
Easter and October, the restaurant is open from 10am till 9pm.
The
Gift shop can be accessed by its own entrance or via
the restaurant, and carries a wide range of gifts and
souvenirs, many produced on the island or the wider local
area, including jewellery, ceramics, books, postcards and
textiles.
The lively King Haakon Bar
is very popular with locals and tourists alike, combining the
authentic feel of an island pub with a mixed local and
international clientele. The bar offers the full restaurant
menu, as well as lighter bar snacks, and has a pool table and
other bar games. It is renowned as a local entertainment
hot-spot, hosting regular lively traditional and contemporary
music sessions that invariably get everyone on the floor.
