Logie Steading is a
collection of small art, craft and food businesses in one
location, meaning that you, the customer, can have a shopping
and eating experience in a restored steading (farm courtyard)
close to the historic town of Forres.
Treats at Logie is a small café
selling good food at affordable prices. Since it was
established in spring of 2003, it has attracted an
ever-growing clientele who appreciate the quality home made
soups (vegetarian and vegan), steak sandwiches, bruschettas,
filled ciabattas, delicious cakes and many other tempting
items. Wherever possible, the produce is organic and sourced
locally. The café is licenced and sells wines and Scottish
beers.
The
Farm and Garden Shop sells locally produced food and hardy
plants, all grown in Scotland. Many of the varieties offered
can be seen growing in the mature Logie House walled garden,
set above the dramatic River Findhorn which has a breathtaking
walk along the river path to Randolph's Leap.
The Logie Steading Art Gallery
(open from February to Christmas) exhibits for sale
contemporary art - paintings, original prints, ceramics,
bronzes, wood, textiles and cards. Glass is engraved on site
where a local artist is able to translate customers'
idea/drawings/photographs into an image possible for
engraving. This is the ideal place to buy a gift or souvenir
of your holiday. Prices are reasonable, and there is always
someone to offer advice about your purchase.
Giles
and Margaret Pearson offer a range of superb antique country
furniture, folk art pieces and general high quality objets
d'art. They specialise in the restoration of cane and rush
seated chairs, and customers can view demonstrations of work
in progress in the shop. Established in 1981, the business
came to Logie Steading in 1999. The shop is naturally lit,
with a high ceiling, and has ample wheelchair access. For
interesting pieces of furniture, Logie Steading has the best
in the area.
Michael and Maria Start have
possibly the most unusual shop in Logie Steading. They repair
and sell automata - beautifully crafted objects, from singing
birds to dancing bears, endowed with life. Originally based in
London, they moved north in 2004, and are the country's
leading restorers of these fascinating, mechanical moving
objects that seem so life like.
Jonathan
Humphrey is a superb painter whose abilities include trompe
l'oeil, murals and specialist painting techniques for
furniture, including marbling, graining and rag rolling.
Almost anything is possible: new furniture can be individually
supplied and finished, while customers' own pieces can be
re-painted. Many examples can be seen in the workshop, where
there is also a selection of beautiful middle eastern rugs.
Logie Steading is a unique place,
bringing together so many art, craft and food specialists in
the one beautiful setting. It makes a great stop-off as you
tour round Moray.
