Bridge of Allan sits just off the
M9 motorway connecting Central Scotland with Inverness and the
north. So if you're travelling along it, why not make a detour
into the affluent and historic town of Bridge of Allan? There
you will find one of the best delicatessens and restaurants in
the country - Clive Ramsay. It was founded in 1984 by
Clive and his wife Violet, and since that time has earned an
enviable reputation throughout central Scotland as a first
class restaurant and purveyor of fine foods.
In fact, over the years it has won
many awards, including the BBC Good Food Shop of the Year
Award in 1991 and the McClennan Scottish Cheese Award three
times running. This is all down to Clive's specialist
knowledge and love of good food and fresh produce. He scours
not just Great Britain, but the world in search of new
products and lines that will enhance his reputation even
further, and entice customers into his shop.
The
lines carried by the shop are extensive. Clive sells the Best
of Taste Company's range of hand-made coulis dessert sauces,
for instance, which use natural ingredients throughout. The
flavours range from apricot, damson with sloe gin and
Raspberry to black cherry with kirsch, wild blueberry and
strawberry. Each one is delicious and wholesome. He also
stocks Innocent Smoothies, a range of drinks made from 100 per
cent fresh juice. Choose from such flavours as strawberries
and raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, oranges,
bananas and pineapples and mangoes and passion fruit. They are
delicious and refreshing, with each smoothie containing over
three quarters of a pound of fruit.
Or
how about Clive Ramsay's range of Bar B Bar barbecue sauces?
Or the Tipsage Farm of Tunbridge Wells Gin Collection? Or even
the full range of Blinding's cooking sauces? All are here, and
a whole lot more besides. And the delicatessen has recently
expanded its services by opening a café next door, where the
food is all freshly made using the finest local produce
wherever possible, and often using some of the products found
in the shop. The Café is licensed and open seven days a week
from 8am until late. A breakfast menu is served until 11.30am
after which an extensive main menu is available. This offers
mouthwatering choices such as Pot Roast Highland Beef with
Oriental Glaze or Ricotta Ravioli, as well as a large
selection of fish dishes which include Prawn Tagliatelli or
Chargrilled Swordfish with Pecorino Sauce.
You can't afford to miss this
establishment. The service is friendly and the prices
represent great value for money.
