Terence Conran and Sean Sutcliffe established Benchmark
Furniture in 2004. It developed from Benchmark Woodworking, a
design-led maker of bespoke furniture and joinery, which they founded 20
years ago. Benchmark's first workshop was in a converted stable
building, making small quantities of furniture for commercial and
retail customers; other buildings were converted into workshops as
the business expanded, and it now employs over 45 craftsmen
and designers and has an acclaimed apprentice training scheme.
The collection is exclusive to Benchmark Furniture with
designs by well-known designers including Shin and Tomoko Azumi,
Terence Conran, Russell Pinch and Thomas Heatherwick as well
as Benchmark's in-house design team. Traditional quality and
modern technology combine to produce a range of handmade
contemporary furniture for the home all made in the workshops. It is sold direct
to the public at workshop prices from an adjacent showroom
and includes furniture for the dining room, sitting room, bedroom,
home office and a number of outdoor pieces.
Visitors are welcome to tour the workshop and visit
the showroom six days a week. Opening hours are 10am _ 6pm
Monday to Friday and 10am _ 5pm on Saturdays. We are closed on
public holidays.
