The Cotswold Water Park is Britain's largest water park, 50% larger than the
Norfolk Broads consisting of 132 lakes covering 30 square miles set in outstanding
countryside. There are two country parks open all year which are managed by The Cotswold Water
Park Society, a not for profit environmental body with charitable status. The Society has for
two years running been awarded the Civic Trusts Green Flag award for it's management
of Keynes Country Park.
Keynes Park has a lot to offer the family including a children's beach which is the
only inland site in Britain to have been awarded the European Blue Flag for it's high
water quality. The park also has nature reserves, adventure playgrounds, boat and cycle hire,
BBQ and picnic sites, angling, lakeside walks, a seasonal cafe and the Millennium visitor
centre for which the Society was awarded the Queens award for sustainable development
in 2000. Inside the centre you will find a gift shop, an exhibition of Jurassic fossils
found within the Cotswold Water Park, a winter cafe and a hall which is hired out for
corporate events and private parties. The Society also manages Neighbridge, which has a
lakeside walk and adventure playground.
The Water Park is nationally recognised for its wildlife and nature reserves.
Throughout the Water Park there are ten lakes and six
meadows which are designated as SSSI's. There are also
a network of footpaths, cycleways and bridleways. The Severn and
Thames canal and a disused railway line also both run through
the park. The park has water sports and activities
for everyone from the novice to the expert. Water
sports include sailing, windsurfing, kayaking,
canoeing, waterskiing and jet skiing.
