A sea-blue awning shades the pavement tables outside Cadogan & James and, as you enter this outstanding delicatessen/café, you are engulfed with a medley of different aromas from the fresh bread, herbs and spices.

Enjoying a picturesque setting in the city's famous Square, the shop is a veritable Aladdin's Cave for gourmets, selling a vast range of products from around the world.

The interior reflects a mixture of traditional Italian-inspired designs. The rustic trompe l'oeil ceiling is complemented by garlands of hops surmounting the shelves deeply filled with a huge variety of products from pastas to preserves, truffles to speciality teas, cheeses of every kind to freshly-made sandwiches and cakes.

Manager Gail Collier and her friendly staff are exceptionally helpful and with their vast knowledge and enthusiasm encourage customers to sample the exciting gourmet products on offer. This must be one of the best delicatessens in the country an absolute must for all food lovers.

Cadogan & James is also perfectly placed for tourist attractions, right next to Winchester Cathedral, close to the Guildhall, King Alfred's statue, the City Museum, Winchester College, the West Gate and the Great Hall where King Arthur's Round Table can be found.
