Caswell House is a wonderful late-15th
century Cotswold stone building reached up a
sweeping drive. Well off the beaten track, but easy to
find, it stands a mile out of Brize Norton on the Curbridge road just south of Witney. Richard and
Amanda Matthews are the fourth generation to have lived on this
500-acre farm, which includes streams, ponds, gardens,
orchards and lawns that reach down to the ancient moat. They offer
a choice of bed & breakfast and self-catering
accommodation, both high-spec and spacious. The B&B facility comprises
en suite doubles and twins, with TV/DVD players and
tea/coffee trays. An excellent Aga-cooked breakfast is served in the
dining room, and guests have the use of a comfortable sitting room.
Self-catering guests have three holiday lets sleeping
two, four and six respectively in the Coach House, the Granary
and the Keepers Retreat, all providing additional
sleeping accommodation, good living and eating space, very
comfortable bedrooms and well-fitted kitchens. The area is rich in
historic and scenic interest, but guests staying at Caswell House
will find plenty to see and do without leaving the farm: the views, the gentle strolls, the
nature trails, the full-size snooker table and much more.
