On the edge of the Cotswolds, on the B4449 between
Standlake and Bampton, lies Aston Pottery, which was opened 18 years
ago by Jane and Stephen Baughan to develop a range of
household ceramics that offer the combination of quality, style and
durability. Today they employ 25 staff and supply over 200 shops. All
the pottery is hand-decorated on to a range of 45 different shapes
from teapots to jugs and bowls to huge oval platters.
The working pottery itself is a complex of period Cotswold
farm buildings which have been extensively renovated to provide
an efficient and modern working environment for staff and visitors.
The pottery includes a large shop where any one of the 125 designs
can be bought, all exquisitely decorated by hand in themes
featuring British animals and birds; wild and garden flowers;
farmyard animals; English gardens and children's
nursery sets. Visitors can look around the working
pottery and see the wide variety of techniques employed
to make and decorate teapots, mugs, jugs and plates.
The pottery shop and tea room are open seven days
a week. A mail-order catalogue is available. Please
visit the website for more information.
