Located on the first floor of Pettits Department
Store, Camille's at Pettits Tea Room is a bright, airy and
inviting place, its walls adorned with attractive prints and
owner Camille Scott's collection of unusual china teapots. Many
of these were donated by regular customers who use the
tea room as a meeting place. Camille's family has a long
history in the catering trade and everything on her menu is
home-made and freshly cooked to order. It includes an
all-day breakfast, omelettes, salads (avocado with bacon is a
great favourite), homemade soup and quiche of the
day, sandwiches and jacket potatoes. Among the teatime
treats are some wonderful homemade sponges, cakes and
tray bakes. Customers can see their food prepared in the
spotless open-plan modern kitchen.
Camille's is open from 9.30am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday. Pettits is a fine old
independent department store founded in 1856 and now owned and run as a family business.
Managing Director Richard Rouse is proud of the fact that the store thrives on value for money and quality
of service _ two members of staff have each completed a remarkable 50 years of
service.
