Walking along the High Street of the historic village
of Ditchling, it's hard to pass by the enticing window
display at Chesterton's. Inside, it resembles a food hall more
than just a grocer's, deli and wine shop, and the quality that
is evident everywhere has built up a clientele not just
from the village but for many miles around. The large
panelled central display units overflow with a
mouthwatering selection of goodies, from bespoke breads and cakes
and pastries to preserves and luxury potato crisps.
Large floor-to-ceiling shelves are filled with a
fine selection of wines from around the world to suit all tastes and pockets, and shoppers will
also find an excellent choice of beer in bottles and cans. The chilled section contains a
wonderful choice of cold meats and salads and dips, 20 kinds of olives and brilliant cheese from the
UK, France, Italy and Spain. Other items not to miss are the splendid ranges of speciality teas
and coffees, and when the weather is kind it's a real treat to choose something from the amazing
to array to enjoy under the shade of a parasol in the elegant courtyard.
