The Furniture Cave,
in the heart of the seaside town of Aberystwyth, is aptly named, as it is an
Aladdin's cave of stripped pine and reproduction furniture, antiques, ceramics,
garden statuary, carpets and rugs, maps, modern silver and jewellery, fireplaces
and pictures. As soon as you enter, you will be astonished at the quality and
low prices of what is on offer.
It is housed in a former tea warehouse, and has
two whole floors of goods, making this a fascinating place
to visit. You are free to browse, and the owner, Phil
David, advises that you take your time when you do so, as there
is just so much to see and admire. He has been in the
antiques trade for over 25 years, and is knowledgeable
about everything he has on offer, as are his two staff
members. They will be only too glad to point you in the direction
of something that suits your tastes and price bracket.
Most of the antiques on show are new to the trade, as they have usually come from
private houses and collections. Some of the smaller objects would make delightful souvenirs or
gifts, and if it's something larger you're after, Phil can arrange to have it delivered anywhere in
the country. He also undertakes valuations and house clearances. So pay the Furniture Cave a
visit when you're in Aberystwyth - but set aside plenty of time for it, as
you're sure to stay
longer than you intended in this fascinating shop.
