Constitution Hill in Aberystwyth can lay claim to not one but two unique attractions _ the longest electric Cliff Railway in Britain and the largest Camera Obscura in the world. The railway opened in 1896 to ferry Victorian holidaymakers up to the top of the hill and the varied attractions and amusements that awaited there. The railway was originally operated on the water balance system but today a powerful electric motor hauls the carriages along the 778ft track at a steady 4 mph, allowing the passengers ample time to enjoy the views on the way up. Those views are naturally at their finest at the summit, from where on a fine day 26 mountain peaks, 100 miles of coastline and 1,000 square miles of land and sea can be seen _ with the naked eye and also reflected by a 14" lens onto a circular screen in the viewing gallery.

There are various other activities and attractions at the top, including a licensed restaurant serving a range of drinks, snacks and meals every day in the summer, Wednesday to Sunday off season. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday the Steak House is the place to go for a choice of succulent steaks and grills, scrumptious puddings and well-chosen wines. Also on the summit are gift shops, a bouncy castle, quad bikes and Frisbee golf.
