West Wales has long been a fertile source of antiques, and the many outlets attract
not only local customers but collectors coming to the area on holiday and dealers from
many parts of the UK and overseas. In the centre of Aberystwyth, off Great Darkgate
Street, the husband-and-wife team of Steven and Jean Ainsworth own and run
SBRI, which specialises in Welsh country and fine furniture, pine and collectables.
When the weather is fine, one or two pieces are displayed
outside the shop on the broad pavement to tempt passers-by to browse
and buy. The old-world interior is filled with a hand-picked selection
of furniture, clocks, lamps, brass ornaments, china, porcelain
and paintings by Jean and other local artists.
SBRI undertakes commissions for paintings and offers a full
restoration service for furniture; they also offer the best prices for buying
antiques. Opening hours are 10.30 to 5 Tuesday to Saturday
(half-day Wednesday). |
