The 25-acre Cwm Deri Vineyard and Restaurant
lies within the stunningly beautiful Pembrokeshire National Park. It opened to
the public in 1992, and is now one of the must-see attractions when
you visit this part of Wales. Not only is it a vineyard, it also sells the
very best of local produce, such as liqueurs, alcohol free wines,
preserves, cheeses, cakes and ice cream.
There are over 3,000 vines here, all planted by hand in the
early 90s, the white varieties being Madelaine d'Angevine and Seyval
Blanc and the red grapes being Triomph d'Alsace. These are well suited
to the Welsh climate, and produce some great wines. If conditions
are right, the `Vineyard Walk' takes you among the vines, where,
in summer and early autumn, you can see the grapes themselves. In
a good year, up to 10 tonnes of grapes can be harvested.
At Cwm Deri you can also see the wine making process from
the grape to the bottling, and tastings are available. Why not buy a
few bottles to take home, or one of the many `country wines', such
as `Pembrokeshire Punch' or Black Cherry? They are made using country fruits and grapes from
the vineyard. Meads and liqueurs are also available. If you prefer, you can order online using
the website.
Or why not have a coffee, a cream tea or a superb lunch in the restaurant, where the food
is outstanding? A day spent in the Cwm Deri Vineyard is an experience not to be missed. All
the family will enjoy it.
