Cheriton Guest House

Vicarage Road, Sidmouth, East Devon EX10 8UQ

Tel/Fax: 01395 513810

website: www.smoothhound.co.uk/hotels/cheritong.html

In their handsome town house backing onto the River Sid, Jane and Rob Speers welcome guests to a relaxing stress-free break from the daily grind. The en suite bedrooms at Cheriton Guest House (one of which is on the ground floor) are warm and comfortable, and guests have the use of a very pleasant lounge.

A good breakfast starts the day, and packed lunches and evening meals are available by arrangement. The front of the house is a blaze of colour from seasonal flowers and plants, but the real gem is a lovely secluded rear garden that has several times been a winner in the annual Sidmouth in Bloom contest. Cheriton Guest House, which is open all year round, is a non-smoking establishment.

It's an easy walk to the seafront, either by way of the town centre or along the River Sid which, at a mere four miles long, is one of the shortest in the country. Sidmouth itself has been graced with visits from Jane Austen, William Makepeace Thackeray, Beatrix Potter and the infant Princess Victoria. Today it remains a very attractive spot with its cliffs, broad beach, grand esplanade and dignified Georgian houses _ and Cheriton Guest House is an ideal base from which to enjoy it all.
