Occupying a peaceful spot next to the church in the centre of Tarrant Monkton village,
The Langton Arms is wonderfully picturesque
with its thatched roof and mellow brick walls. Dating back to the 17th century, this fine
old hostelry has been under the caring ownership of Barbara Cossins and her husband,
James, a local farmer, since 1992. The inn is well known for its excellent food _
based wherever possible on Dorset produce _ and its ever-changing selection of real ales.
The separate Stables Restaurant is housed in an old converted stable and a conservatory
and is open evenings, Wednesday to Saturday, and for Sunday lunch.
The
restaurant/conservatory plus the Function Room and Skittles Alley
lend themselves very well for wedding
receptions and civil ceremonies, birthday and
family celebrations, club and social evenings, conferences and small business
meetings. The various options are suitable for
parties from 12 to 100 people. The inn's
picturesque appearance, its attractive grounds and
the nearby ford and bridge, have all made it a popular venue for weddings. The inn
offers an individual service to suit the needs of
each couple and the various rooms or outside marquee enables them to cater for
weddings large or small. There is plenty of
parking space and good disabled access. The Langton Arms' unique approach to
every wedding includes having their award-winning chef on hand to discuss any special
preferences, and the inn also provides a dedicated member of staff to help guide you through your big day.
If you plan to stay in this scenic corner of the county, The Langton Arms has six
luxury guest bedrooms built in rustic brick around an attractive courtyard. All are on the ground
floor level with their own
private entrance and a bay window looking out onto the Dorset
countryside. The rooms are furnished to a high standard with full en suite bathrooms, colour TV
and hospitality tray. If you prefer self-catering, within a short walk of the inn there's a
separate cottage which can sleep up to eight guests.
Tarrant Monkton provides an ideal base for exploring the many attractions of East Dorset
_ amongst them historic Kingston Lacy House, Wimborne Minster, the New Forest, the
ancient cathedral city of Salisbury, and the hilltop market town of Shaftesbury with its Gold Hill
made famous by the Hovis adverts.
