The Butcher's Shop

The Chalk, Iwerne Minster, nr Blandford Forum,
Dorset DT11 8NA

Tel/Fax: 01747 811229

The Butcher's Shop in The Chalk, in the heart of the village, is a traditional butcher with a wonderful display of meats and delicatessen products. When Simon Harvell bought the shop in 1982, he was determined to run it in the traditional manner, all but forgotten in an age of uniform supermarket production line meat. Once every town would have had a local butcher's shop like this. Simon knows exactly where all his meat comes from. It is slaughtered locally and Simon ensures that it is properly hung to develop its flavour. White Park beef, Gloucester Old Spot pork, and grass fed Aberdeen Angus beef reared on the Ranston Estate are among the high quality meats that draw people from far beyond Dorset to this tiny village shop.

As well as beef, lamb, pork and bacon, Simon also stocks a range of delicatessen products. You'll find free range eggs, some 40 French cheeses (including un-pasteurised varieties), Italian olive oils and smoked meats and fish, all chosen for taste and quality, and conforming to Simon's exacting standards. This is a shop for people who like to know where their food comes from, and who appreciate the distinctive flavours of natural food.
