Bears & Boxes Country Guest House
stands in a quiet, rural area of outstanding natural beauty on
the Heritage Coast, a few minutes' walk from the Coastal Path. Resident owners
Robert and Francoise Holmes provide very comfortable accommodation in four rooms
in a cottage that dates back in part to the 17th century. All have en suite
facilities, and one room is perfect for families. The atmosphere is particularly
friendly, with Francoise being selected as a finalist in the AA Friendliest
Landlady of the Year category B&B Award 2007. The owners also set a relaxed tone
by making breakfast available until late morning.
Bookings can be made on a B&B or Dinner, B&B
basis, and for the latter an exciting dinner menu, different
every day, combines English tradition with a dash
of Colonial flair. Bears & Boxes stands in an acre
of grounds that afford views across Widemouth Bay to Bude
and beyond. Visitors should leave the A39 8 miles south of
Bude at Wainhouse Corner, take the Crackington Haven road
and turn off at the sign to Dizzard and Millook. Why Bears
& Boxes? B and B, of course, and the `Bears' part is a tribute
to friends of the owners, a group called the Chicago
Teddy Bears.
