The warmest of welcomes and the finest food are guaranteed at
Bucklawren Granary Restaurant, which stands in rolling Cornish countryside
off the B3253 3 miles from Looe (turn off at No Mans Land). Jason fry, his
father Simon and business partner Stuart Philpot have made this beautifully
converted granary on two floors one of the most sought after destination
restaurants in the region.
Tom Stewart is a highly accomplished chef, and he and his team prepare
and cook the food using a wonderful array of high-quality fresh produce.
Everything tempts on the wide-ranging menus, whether it's a time-honoured
English speciality or an intriguing variation on classic themes. Fish comes from
the quayside auction in nearby Looe, meat and eggs are local and free-range, and
the cheeseboard is all Cornish. Meals are served from 11.30 to 2.30 and from 6
to 9.30 Monday to Saturday and from 11.30 to 4 for the Sunday carvery; also 7 to
9.30 Sunday evening between Easter and the end of September. Booking is advisable at
all times. The lunch and early evening menu of one, two or three courses offers a pie
of the day and a roast of the day with all the traditional trimmings, Looe cod in
beer batter and daily changing delights such as grilled king prawns with a garlic, chilli
and white wine sauce served on a bed of noodles, or a broccoli, mushroom
and cheese lasagne. From the main evening menu come steaks, honey-roast duck
breast and super seafood dishes such as local scallops in a creamy saffron sauce or
pan-seared sea bass. Delicious desserts set the seal on a truly memorable meal.
The restaurant exhibits original paintings, by local artists, on the walls
and outside you may be lucky to see one of the resident peacocks in full display.
The Granary is a popular choice for wedding celebrations and other
special events, and a separate function room can seat up to 150. It has a full on-licence, so
the owners are happy for visitors to drop in
just for a drink - but that would be to miss one of the best eating experiences in the
whole county! |
