In the heart of historic Ashbourne The Gallery Café is situated within a restored 19th century building which was once the towns Magistrates Court. It is undoubtedly one of the finest cafés of its kind in Derbyshire. It sits above the St John Street Gallery, which showcases contemporary art and crafts in many forms. The Café and Gallery have been owned and run for the last six years by Glen Bentley and Rob Watkin, and has recently been reopened after a complete refurbishment. They want not only to return the café to its former popularity, but surpass it in terms of quality and ambience.

The spacious café seats 40 and is open from Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5.30pm. Glen does all of the cooking, and the majority of the produce is sourced locally, ensuring freshness and flavour in the range of home-cooked meals and snacks. The Gallery Café is a member of the Peak District Cuisine Group, and in 2006 won three "Great Taste Awards" from the Guild of Fine Food; a gold award for salad dressing and two bronze awards for gluten-free brownies and marmalade.

So if you're in Ashbourne, why not visit the St John Street Gallery and then head upstairs for a snack, a coffee or a meal. Children are more than welcome.
