Nestling in the tranquil Lyn Valley, Brendon
House is a handsome Georgian residence that
was built around 1780 and still retains many of
the orginal features and character. It stands in an
acre of gardens on the outskirts of Brendon
village, elevated above the East Lyn river with fields
and rugged moorland at the rear making it one of the
best locations in the area. From the house, the
Brendon Valley sweeps east to Malmsmead, made famous by
the book Lorna Doone, and west to Watersmeet, then
onwards to the villages of Lynton and Lynmouth.
This charming old house is the home of Ian and Sandra Rigby who have gained a reputation for
good wholesome Devonshire cooking with many of the vegetables grown in their own gardens. In the
North Devon Good Food Awards 2003, they were highly
commended "For providing excellent food and service". They take great
pride in cooking and serving local meats, seafood and game,
including rabbit, pheasant, partridge and venison. Brendon House
is licensed and has an excellent selection of good wines.
The accommodation comprises 5 letting rooms, all with en
suite facilities, TV and hospitality tray, and enjoying excellent
views. There's also a residents' lounge and the restaurant.
