Nestling in the South Huish valley near the old fishing village of Hope Cove,
Burton Farm House & Garden Room
Restaurant offers bed & breakfast, self-catering and an excellent
restaurant, all in beautiful surroundings. The
15th century farmhouse has been lovingly restored with
a wealth of original features, character and charm. Originally owned by the Earl of
Devonshire, Burton Farmhouse is set in 325 acres. It is
a working farm with a pedigree Holstein dairy herd and two flocks of pedigree
breeding sheep _ Polled Dorsets and Suffolks. The Rossiter family has farmed in the South
Hams for more than 100 years. David Rossiter has farmed and bred pedigree livestock at
Burton Farm for many years now and has built up a dairy herd of Holstein pedigree cows and
two flocks of award winning, pedigree Polled Dorsets and Suffolks breeding sheep. He
has been a judge of these all over the world.
Anne Rossiter, Burton Farmhouse's chef/patron, has turned a near derelict
farmhouse into its present, award-winning business, overseen all the developments and raised a family
of four children. As Anne says "At Burton
Farmhouse we keep busy, so you can simply relax and enjoy
your stay!"
Bed & breakfast guests have the choice of family, double, twin or single
tastefully decorated rooms. All 14 rooms have en
suite facilities and are centrally heated, equipped
with TV and hospitality tray. There are ground
floor rooms available, one with wheelchair access
and a specially equipped disabled bathroom with a walk-in shower. A traditional farmhouse
cooked breakfast is included in the tariff _
vegetarian and special diets can be catered for. Children
are welcome _ there's a large play area and games room with pool and table tennis. Cots, high chairs and a babysitting service are all available.
Please note that the house is a non-smoking zone.
If you prefer self-catering, there are 2- and 3-bedroomed cottages with fully
equipped kitchens, colour TV/video, night storage heaters and beautiful stone-built
fireplaces. The cottages have large gardens, perfect
for children and parents alike.
A major amenity at Burton Farmhouse is the excellent conservatory style Garden
Room Restaurant where Anne offers an enticing menu based mostly on fresh locally
sourced ingredients. In summer, alfresco dining is available on the patio with regular
barbecues. And if you are looking for a wedding celebration venue, the farmhouse has
3 licensed ceremony rooms.
