Dragon Hall is a Grade 1 listed medieval trading hall and one of Norwich's most important historic buildings. It was built as a showroom and warehouse by a wealthy merchant called Robert Toppes around 1430.

Over the following 600 years many changes took place. By the 20th century the magnificent timber roof frame of the hall had been hidden from view in the attics of a row of terraced houses.

Dragon Hall has now been fully restored and developed. The timber-framed roof of the Great Hall is one of the most spectacular in Europe and Dragon Hall gets its name from a beautiful carved and painted dragon in the roof timbers. The ground floor rooms show how the building was later split into separate dwellings. Underground, in the cellars and undercroft, there is evidence of a thousand years of human history.

Visitors can enjoy the wonders of this unique building and discover its fascinating history through individual audio tours, group guided tours, interactive displays and a dragon trail for children. A new extension houses modern facilities and a lift to the first floor whilst a stunning new contemporary glass extension creates a Gallery overlooking the courtyard garden. Dragon Hall is fully accessible, apart from the cellars which are reached by steep steps.

Opening hours: Monday - Saturday, 10am-5pm (last admission 4pm)
