Described by host Steven Thorpe as the `Eden Valley's Hidden Gem', the
Fox & Pheasant
stands close to the River Eden just ten minutes from the M6
(J41 or 42) and halfway between Penrith and Carlisle. It started life in the
16th century as a coaching inn and was later extended with the addition of a
former shooting and fishing lodge. In converted stables, the Stable Bar, with
exposed stone, wooden beams, sandstone floors and log fires, is a great place
to sample Steven's selection of between four and six real ales.
The main
bar is a popular local meeting place, and in the Victorian Restaurant and Eden
Lounge residents and visitors can relax and enjoy a superb meal based as far as
possible on local produce. Guest accommodation is available in individually
furnished bedrooms, combining period features and up-to-date amenities; they
include a quaint attic room overlooking the river. Fishing can be arranged for
residents, and the pub is also conveniently placed for shooting parties.
