Standing in the shadow of Blencathra on the old main road
two miles east of Keswick, the
Salutation Inn lives up to its name by offering the warmest of
greetings to all its visitors. Dating from 1679, the inn has a genuine period
charm that's assisted by low beams, wall sates in three areas divided by upright
timbers, open fires, horse brasses and some interesting items of local
provenance.
Jennings
and Theakstons ales are on tap to quench thirsts, and heart home cooked food
runs the gamut from sandwiches and light snacks to hearty main courses served
lunchtime and evening. Apart from the main bar and dining areas, the pub has a
games room with darts, pool and TV, a children's room and an outside seating
area. Centrally heated en suite bedrooms provide a very comfortable and
civilised base for discovering the delights of Threlkeld, for enjoying the
great views, for getting rid of urban cobwebs on mountain walks (Blencathra is
an excellent start!) and for venturing further afield to explore the Lake
District and the Solway Coast.
