The Vineyard and Wine Shop, Bistro, Plant Centre and Pets Corner

Lamberhurst Vineyard was established in 1972 in a north-facing position that ensures that the harvest is a couple of weeks later than south-facing vineyards but more importantly reduces the amount of frost damage early in the growing season. The vineyard's expert viniculturist nurtures bacchus, early pinot noir, rondo, regent and Ortega among others, and an extended planting programme started in 2004 will produce its full yield in 2009. Visitors van walk round the vineyard by arrangement, or join in a guide tour that ends with a talk and wine tasting.

At the heart of the vineyard is a fully licensed Bistro, which offers fine, wholesome local food at very reasonable prices and the option of alfresco eating out on the terrace. The menu changes on a regular basis, always providing plenty of choice, from the popular smoked mackerel pâté to a Sunday roast with all the trimmings. For a booking at the Bistro Tel: 01892 890412. The Vineyard Shop sells the extensive range of the award-winning English wines from Chapel Down, as well as one of the few English lagers beers, the best of local ciders, fruit juice and liqueurs. The shop also offers a hamper service where customers can choose the contents, which are then gift-wrapped and sent to any address in the UK.

Plantbase (Tel: 01892 891453) has over 1,100 varieties of alpines, shrubs, perennials, trees, grasses, heathers, ferns, climbers and herbs as well as terracotta pots and other accessories. All the plants are grown at the Vineyard in tough outdoor conditions. Australian and South American plants are a speciality, and all plants come with extensive information and advice.

Set in an orchard within sight of the Bistro terrace lies Pets Corner, a safe area for children to play with the friendly rabbits and guinea pigs and the recently arrived pygmy goats. All the animals are safe for children to stroke and pet, and parents can watch their little ones at play while enjoying a glass of wine or a meal on the terrace.
